PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing metal nanoparticles, which has advantages of both a reverse micelle method and a liquid-liquid extraction method, and can selectively convert only an objective metal to the nanoparticle. PSOLUTION: The method for producing the metal nanoparticles includes the steps of: sufficiently mixing an aqueous phase which is an aqueous solution of a metal containing a gold ion and an organic phase which is an inactive solvent containing AOT as a surface active agent and TODGA as an organic ligand; concentrating the gold ion in the reverse micelle; then dispensing the organic phase containing the reverse micelle; adding hydrazine of a reducing agent to the dispensed organic phase; and reacting them for a fixed period of time to produce gold nanoparticles. The method can highly selectively extract only an objective metal ion from an aqueous solution containing a low concentration of the metal ion that is desired to be converted into nanoparticles, in which a large number of impurities coexist, and can produce nanoparticles of high quality by using a nano-reaction-filed of the reverse micelle.
