PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and an image forming device capable of improving sealability in a housing member for storing an optical system without deteriorating an interval adjustment function of a reading guide which can adjust an interval in accordance with the thickness of a manuscript to be transported.SOLUTION: An image reading part 20 includes a reading frame 420, a reading guide 422, and a seal mechanism 421. The seal mechanism 421 is constituted to cover a space between the reading frame 420 and the reading guide 422. The seal mechanism 421 includes: a rib 442 arranged by erection in parallel with a slide direction of the reading guide 422; and a dust-proof sheet 440 which is arranged to allow its distal end to touch the rib 442 and has flexibility.
