TECHNIQUE FOR COLOPLASTY FOLLOWING SUBTOTAL COLONECTOMY

A technique for coloplasty following subtotal colonectomy comprises the mobilization of left and right halves of the colon. Prior to the mobilization of the left half, the inferior mesenteric artery is skeletized. The left colonic artery and the first sigmoid artery are cut at the site of their origin from the inferior mesenteric artery for graft elongation. Other sigmoid arteries are spared. The duplicature intestinal-colonic anastomosis is fashioned. The loop of the elongated sigmoid colon is fixed to the mesentery of the left flank and gastrocolic ligament. The sigmoid colon is placed instead of the left half of the colon.
