The present invention relates to a device for adjusting the liftcharacteristics of an aircraft. Fora flexible adjustment of the lift characteristics of a wing element, thedevice comprises a highlift device that is movably attachable to a wing element and at least two slotcovering devices,which are movably attachable to the wing element and which are designed toregulate the sizeof a slot between the wing element and the high lift device. To regulate thesize of the slot, atleast one of the slot covering devices is movably and controllably attached onthe underside ofthe wing element and at least one of the slot covering devices is movably andcontrollablyattached to the top of the wing element. Further, at least one slot coveringdevice is retractableinto an indentation in the wing element.
