A method and an apparatus (100) for extraction of slime (9) from snails (10) by providing the snail a substance (11) able to stimulate the production of slime from the snail, which stimulant is in fluid condition and is brought into contact with the snail through the ambient air surrounding the said snail, in particular being sprayed in the air environment which surrounds the snail. The substance stimulating production of slime includes an active agent dissolved in a solvent, said solvent being in particular consisting of water and said active agent being in particular defined by a salt, preferably from sodium chloride.
