Disclosed are a method and apparatus for generating a terahertz wave using a laser plasma capable of obtaining high output and varying frequency. The terahertz wave generator includes a vacuum chamber, a gas control unit for supplying gas to the vacuum chamber, a laser generator having a predetermined size or more energy, and a laser generator and a vacuum chamber for irradiating the generated laser beam to the vacuum chamber. And a beam focusing means for focusing the installed and irradiated laser beam on the gas, wherein the laser beam focused on the gas in the vacuum chamber generates plasma, and the terahertz wave is generated by the vibration of the generated plasma. Therefore, it is possible to generate a terahertz wave having a high output and a variable frequency.
