PURPOSE: A method for fabricating a precursor fiber for a carbon fiber is provided to obtain a precursor fiber with excellent molecular orientation and small diameter and a carbon fiber with high strength and high rigidity.;CONSTITUTION: A method for fabricating a precursor fiber for a carbon fiber comprises: a step of spinning an acrylonitrile fiber from a spinning solution containing an acrylonitrile polymer; a step of stretching the spun fiber and controlling the fiber diameter; and a step of stretching the fiber and preparing the precursor fiber. The acrylonitrile polymer is fabricated by copolymerization of an acrylonitrile monomer and one or more copolymerization monomers selected from acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, itaconic acid, methacrylate, and acrylamide.
