PURPOSE: A composition containing tachioside or 9,12,13-trihydroxy-10(E)-octadecenoic acid is provided to suppress differentiation of adipocyte precursor cells and fat accumulation. CONSTITUTION: A composition for treating obesity contains tachioside or 9,12,13-trihydroxy-10(E)-octadecenoic acid as an active ingredient, isolated from wheat bran extract. Tachioside is isolated from sugarcane molasses, Berchemia racemosa, or bamboo culm. The compound is isolated from licorice and Colocasia antiquorum. The composition also contains a food composition and pharmaceutical composition. A composition for treating insulin resistance contains the tachioside or 9,12,13-trihydroxy-10(E)-octadecenoic acid as an active ingredient.
