A network search period setup method and a terminal thereof are provided to set a network search period in a short manner automatically when a user wants to use the terminal while the mobile terminal is out of a service area, thus the user can quickly find a desired network. It is decided whether a terminal is out of a service area(S202). If so, a network search period is set in a long manner(S204). It is decided whether a random inputting action exists while the network search period is set in the long manner(S206). If so, the network search period is set in a short manner(S208-S212). If no signal reception exists in the terminal for more than a certain time, it is recognized that the terminal is out of the service area.
