PURPOSE: A device for holding magnetic members by controlling the energy of a permanent magnet is provided to obtain strong holding force in a simple structure by arranging a coil in a pole piece without installing a separate electromagnet.;CONSTITUTION: A device (100) for holding magnetic members by controlling the energy of a permanent magnet comprises an N pole piece (110), an S pole piece (120), a permanent magnet (130), a coil (140), a base (150), and a control device (170). The N pole piece has the holding surface in order that the magnetic member is attached and a base attaching surface formed in the other part of the holding surface. The S pole piece has the holding surface in order that the magnetic member is attached and a base attaching surface formed in the other part of the holding surface. The N pole of the permanent magnet touches the N pole piece and the S pole touches the S pole piece. The coil is wound around at least one among the N pole piece and the S pole piece. The base moves between first position and second position. The first position does not touch both the base attaching surface of the N pole piece and the base attaching surface of the S pole piece. The second position touches both the base attaching surface of the N pole piece and the base attaching surface of the S pole piece.
