The system (1) has a hydraulic motor (25) that recovers energy during regenerative lowering operation of a lifting mechanism (2). A hydraulic pump and the motor are in drive connection with a common electric machine operable as a motor and a generator. The motor is connected at an input side with the lifting mechanism by a regenerative lowering line (30). An electrical actuatable sequence valve (31) is arranged in the lifting mechanism and the line. A bypass lowering line (40) is guided from the mechanism to a container (10), where a lowering valve (41) is arranged in the bypass lowering line.
