The exhaust system has a thermoelectric generator which is coupled to an exhaust line (2) and a coolant line (11). The generator is provided with several thermoelectric legs arranged between the tubular units. The exhaust gas guiding device (6) is provided with a flow portion for changing the exhaust gas flowing-through cross-sectional area within the tubular units by translational and rotational movement with respect to tubular units.
