The method involves providing a solid electrolyte layer (12) and applying a hollow space forming layer on the solid electrolyte layer. A ceramic layer (20) is applied on the solid electrolyte layer such that the ceramic layer covers the hollow space forming layer. A thermal shock protection layer is applied in a hollow space and on the ceramic layer by a thermal spraying process. The thermal spraying process is provided as a plasma spraying process or a laser spraying process.
