The grid has an evaluation unit for evaluating signals of light barriers that are arranged one above another, where the individual light barrier comprises transmitters (Su) and receivers (Eu, E1-E3). The evaluation unit includes a frame function that differentiates an interruption of optical paths (Lu, L1-L3) by a gate leaf (2) from interruption of the optical paths by an obstacle during assembling the grid in a frame (3) of a gate. The evaluation unit includes a plausibility function that determines whether the optical paths are interrupted by the gate leaf or obstacle.
