The brake (10) has an electromagnet and a spring rod (18) that are arranged in a housing (12). An axially movable armature disk (16) is arranged in the housing in a torque-proof manner and pressurized against a brake disk (26) with predetermined braking force, where the brake disk is coupled with an engine shaft. A damping element (38) i.e. hydraulic damping element, and/or a spring i.e. leg spring, gradually dampens or completely transfers the braking force to the brake disk. The damping element is arranged parallel to the rod in the housing and coupled with the armature disk.
