The powertrain (1) has a steam generator (11) i.e. waste heat boiler, for producing vapor using exhaust gases i.e. waste heat, of a gas turbine (10). A vapor expansion machine i.e. steam turbine (12), is driven by the vapor. The gas turbine and vapor expansion machine are connected with generators (G1, G2) to drive the generators for producing electrical power, respectively. Storage units (20.1, 30.1) store the electrical power. The gas turbine, steam generator and steam turbine form a gas turbine-steam turbine-combination drive system. The storage unit is designed as a battery e.g. lithium ion battery, or electrical flywheel storage unit. The storage units and/or an electric motor (20.2) i.e. traction motor, are connected with the generator. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a vehicle.
