The station (10) has a receiving space for receiving battery cells (12). Measuring tips (34, 36, 38) detect an electrical variable of the battery cells. A camera (32) detects an identifier e.g. data matrix code, which identifies the battery cells to be tested. The camera detects a polarity of the battery cells and/or checks a position of the measuring tips relative to one the cells. A test carriage (26) moves the measuring tips from one of the battery cells to the other battery cell provided in the receiving space. The camera is coupled with a control device (44), which controls the carriage. The camera is read by a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip. An independent claim is also included for a method for testing battery cells.
