The method involves forming a casing (7) from plastic film layers (10, 11, 12) connected with each other. The plastic film layers are obtained as a co-extrudate in a manufacturing process step or formed by a laminate. A part of the plastic film layers is formed of certain material. One of the film layers (11) of a layer composite is made of polyamide and embedded between other film layers (10, 12) made of polyester, where one of the latter film layers (10) is turned away from a filter medium (5). An independent claim is also included for a filter element.
