The engine has a gas interactive controller for controlling a gas exchange by hydraulically moving sliding sleeves (16). Hydraulic actuators are arranged around the sliding sleeves and act on the sliding sleeves in a sliding direction. The hydraulic actuators are directly integrated as small hydraulic lifting pistons (1, 2) in parallel holes in which cylinders retain the respective sliding sleeves. A nose or a collar is provided at a free end of each actuator such that the actuators are immersed into a bore or recess located at an outer diameter in the sliding sleeves.
