The method involves calculating voltage of an on-board power system (2) of an electric car from voltage and current of a battery (10) and variable resistors (R, R5) of components (16, 18) connecting the battery to the on-board power system, where the voltage and current of the variable resistors are estimated by performing convergent iterative calculation by calculating current (34) traversing an alternator (30) connected to the on-board power system from a power loss value, minimizing and exploiting error of a linear model and using a recursive least square algorithm.
