PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium complex oxide which can offer a lithium ion secondary battery having an operation voltage of a 5-V class when used as a positive electrode active material, and which can be used to obtain a lithium ion secondary battery having good cycle and rate characteristics.SOLUTION: A lithium complex oxide comprises a composition including Ni and Mn, and expressed by a particular formula. The lithium complex oxide has an average secondary particle diameter of 3-29 m, a spinel type crystal structure, and space groups, at least part of which consists of a space group P432.
