PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synthetic resin emulsion which is useful as an aqueous coating agent for obtaining a coating layer having a high refractive index and being transparent.SOLUTION: A synthetic resin emulsion is prepared by dispersing and stabilizing a synthetic resin obtained by polymerizing a monomer component [I] containing 50 wt.% or more of an aromatic ring-containing (meth)acrylate-based monomer (x) by a sulfonic acid-based surfactant (y) containing a polyoxyalkylene structure. The mixing amount of the sulfonic acid-based surfactant (y) containing a polyoxyalkylene structure is 3 pts.wt. or less with respect to 100 pts.wt. of the monomer component [I].
