PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber applicable to an optical fiber having any refractive index distribution when the optical fiber uses quartz based glass as a material, economical and low in loss.SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an optical fiber using quartz based glass having a Brillouin frequency shift amount varied in a longitudinal direction of the optical fiber as a material adjusts a temperature or drawing speed of the optical fiber so as to vary the Brillouin frequency shift amount in a longitudinal direction of the optical fiber when drawing the optical fiber.
