PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide Fe(II)-substituted MEL type zeolite useful for catalytically removing various gases, and a method for producing the same.SOLUTION: Fe(II)-substituted MEL type zeolite has a SiO/AlOratio of not less than 10 and not more than 30, and is ion-exchanged with Fe(II) ions. The amount of supported Fe(II) is preferably 0.001-0.4 mmol/g with respect to the amount of the Fe(II)-substituted MEL type zeolite. The Fe(II)-substituted MEL type zeolite is preferably produced by a method where MEL type zeolite having a SiO/AlOratio of not less than 10 and not more than 30 is dispersed in an aqueous solution of a water-soluble compound of divalent iron and then mixed and agitated to make the MEL type zeolite support Fe(II) ions thereon.
