PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silicon particle capable of being favorably used as a negative electrode active material for a high-capacity lithium ion secondary battery.SOLUTION: A carbon-coated silicon particle of the present invention is a silicon particle in which at least a part of the surface thereof is coated with carbon, and has a layer of silicon carbide at at least a part of the interface between the carbon coat and the silicon particle, while the value of the following ratio A obtained by powder X-ray diffraction analysis is 0.50 or less: A=(the intensity of a peak around 2=28° derived from a silicon carbide crystal)/(the intensity of a peak around 2=36° derived from a silicon crystal).
