PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL (electroluminescent) element prominent in outside extraction quantum efficiency and lifetime, a method of manufacturing the element, and a display device as well as an illumination device which are provided with the element. PSOLUTION: The material for organic electroluminescent element is a compound shown by a general formula (1) A-Q(n), herein: in the formula, A shows fluorescence luminescent compound residue or phosphorescence luminescent compound residue, and A-Q shows a precursor which generates a compound expressed by a general formula (2) by light or heat, and (n) shows the number of Q connected to A and expresses the integer of 1-4.
