PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a protective film having the discoloration preventive effect on a silver-plated film and having excellent durability.SOLUTION: This discoloration preventive film for a silver-plated film consists of at least one kind of oxide film selected among a group consisting of a zinc oxide film, an aluminum oxide film, a cerium oxide film, a zirconium oxide film, silicon oxide film, tin oxide film, and an indium oxide film formed on the silver-plated film. In the method for forming the discoloration protective film for a silver-plated film, the oxide film is formed on the silver-plated film by a vapor phase method, a sol-gel method, or a method using the electrolytic deposition reaction from an aqueous solution with an article with the silver-plated film being formed thereon as an object to be processed.
