PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for directly forming an image or a pattern, achieving a sufficient contrast on the surface of a metal foil, onto the surface of the metal foil.;SOLUTION: Dots 5 are formed in a desired region on the surface of a metal foil 3, having a prescribed reflectance, on a base material 2. The dot parts or their peripheries are etched so as to form the non-through unevenness in which the dot parts are made convex or concave.
