The method involves sending chirped laser radiation with two separable radiation portions to a target (6) over a local oscillator distance. The laser radiation is converted into signals, and interferometric distance to the target is determined from the signals based on interferometric mixing. One of the radiation portions is delayed temporally before sending against the other radiation portion. The former radiation portion is delayed in such a manner that the radiation portions are sent with a phase shift of chirps moving in opposite directions of 180 degrees. An independent claim is also included for a distance measuring device.
