Provided is a fuel injection device for injecting fuel from a plurality of nozzle holes into a cavity in the crown surface of a piston, wherein in a planar view, the fuel injection angle (θ₁) in the vertical surface of a nozzle hole that injects fuel toward an area of a cylinder head with a high thermal load is closer to the base surface of the cavity than the fuel injection angle (θ₀) of the other holes (θ₁ θ₀). In a planar view, the area of the cylinder head with a high thermal load is an area sandwiched by the valve axes of two exhaust valves, with the fuel injection device as a baseline. The absolute quantity of fuel combusted in the area with a high thermal load is reduced and the thermal load of the cylinder head is lightened.
