A peat moss harvesting apparatus (10) includes a supporting structure (12) attachable to a carrier vehicle (14), and a conveyor mechanism (22) mounted to the supporting structure (12). The conveyor mechanism (22) includes first and second pulleys (52, 54) and a belt assembly (48). The belt assembly (48) includes at least one flexible drive element (88a, 8b), a plurality of transverse supports (92) mounted to the drive element, and a plurality of cover members (50) mounted to the transverse supports. The cover members (50) define a support surface (82) for conveying material. The transverse supports (92) may be longitudinally spaced apart from one another along the drive element. Each of the cover members (50) may be fixed to a respective one of the transverse supports (92).
