A system and method for an intelligent terminal to manage a home gateway, comprising an intelligent terminal and a home gateway which communicate with each other through a gateway App communication protocol, wherein the intelligent terminal comprises a home gateway management module, a log file, a mapping file and a native database of the intelligent terminal. The home gateway management module is used for looking up to the log file, accessing and modifying data in the native database of the intelligent terminal, and adding an alias for an MAC address in the mapping file; and the home gateway comprises a background serving module, a home gateway native database and a home gateway native software module. The management module of the home gateway accesses the native database of the home gateway, and the background serving module cooperates in management through the home gateway native software module. The present invention can query a parameter for setting the home gateway, the corresponding update WiFi SSID and/or password information on the home gateway and the intelligent terminal synchronously, and push the latest intelligent terminal App or home gateway software to a user actively, and the update operation is simplified.
