The invention provides a transducer for use in a locator beacon for locating objects underwater, and a locator beacon incorporating such a transducer. The transducer comprises a housing that encloses a cavity. The housing has one or more apertures for allowing fluid to flow into and out of the cavity when the locator beacon is placed underwater. The transducer also comprises a piezo-electric element attached to or forming part of said housing, said element capable of movement when an electrical signal is applied to it, such that water is moved in and out of the cavity via the apertures thereby generating sound energy at a frequency that is the same as the frequency of the electrical signal applied.
