The invention relates to a method and to a device (1) for controlling the formation of sheets in a paper production process, and to a paper machine having such a device (1). The device (1) comprises at least one electrical unit (2) for generating an electric field. An electric field is generated. Paper fibers (3) present in an aqueous suspension (9) are exposed to the electric field. Deposition of the paper fibers into a fiber layer and/or orientation of the paper fibers (3) within the fiber layer is controlled by means of the electric field.
