PURPOSE: A system for controlling the driving of a vehicle based on steady state visually evoked potentials (SSVEP) and a method thereof are provided to control the vehicle or warn a driver by accurately detecting information on the attention or the drowsiness of the driver with a camera based system combined with a bio-signal system. CONSTITUTION: A system (10) for controlling the driving of a vehicle based on SSVEP comprises a camera unit (12), a display unit (14), a brainwave detecting unit (18), a warning unit (19), and a control unit (16). The camera unit is installed on a rear vehicle and obtains images showing that a lamp installed on a front vehicle is flickering. The display unit is installed on the rear vehicle and supplies the flickering images to a driver. The brainwave detecting unit measures the brainwaves of the driver on the rear vehicle. The warning unit warns the driver according to the command of the control unit with the information such as sound, smell, vibration, and the images. The control unit detects the driving information of the front vehicle by analyzing the flickering images and determines whether the vehicle is in a dangerous situation or not according to the driving information. The control unit supplies a first flickering image of a pre-set first frequency to the driver through the display unit when determining that the vehicle is in the dangerous situation. The control unit determines the attention or the drowsiness of the driver by analyzing frequency properties of brainwaves when the driver receives the first flickering image.
