PURPOSE: An active irrigation control method based on soil moisture tension and an irrigation control device are provided to start irrigation at accurate time by measuring moisture tension in a tensiometer and to determine an optimal irrigation amount and an optimal irrigation time. CONSTITUTION: An active irrigation control method based on soil moisture tension comprises the following steps: measuring soil moisture tension before supplying water to soil; determining whether the soil moisture tension value approaches a target value according to cultivated crops or not; converting the soil moisture tension value into a moisture content value if the soil moisture tension value is deficient to a target value; determining required irrigation flow needed for soil by using the moisture content value; calculating a pressure loss rate of a supply tube by respectively measuring and comparing pressures at a starting stage and an end stage of the supply tube which is used for supplying water to soil; determining an irrigation time to be proportional to the required irrigation flow and to be inversely proportional to supply flux and the pressure loss rate according to the supply tube; and supplying water to the soil for a determined irrigation time. A tensiometer is used to measure the moisture tension of soil.
