The present invention relates to a device for adjusting the length of a mooring rope for testing a floating body and a method for operating the same, which are capable of adjusting the length of a mooring rope simply and quickly outside of a water tank when a mooring rope supporter is provided inside the water tank. The device for adjusting the length of a mooring rope for testing a floating body according to the present invention comprises: a supporter comprising a supporter base provided in the water tank, a pair of rope supporting pieces arranged separately at a predetermined distance on the supporter base and provided with through-holes through which the mooring rope is connected with the floating body, and rope fixing tongs provided between the rope supporting pieces to pick up and fix the mooring rope; a tongs-operating unit provided on the outside of the water tank so as to be capable of rotational movement or rectilinear movement and provided with an operating lever connected with the rope fixing tongs via a cable so as to open the rope fixing tongs, thereby releasing a fixed state of the mooring rope; and a winch provided on the outside of the water tank and wound with the mooring rope.
