The device has an exhaust valve (12) that is positioned in an exhaust pipe (10), and is displaced around an exhaust flap base position of the exhaust valve in a defined angular range, in order to influence the exhaust gas opening noise. The exhaust flap base position is actively adjustable depending on the combustion engine speed and combustion engine load. The defined angular range is actively adjustable according to a frequency to be attenuated or generated, or a frequency of the exhaust gas opening noise to be amplified. An independent claim is included for method for influencing exhaust gas opening noise of a motor car.
