Producing preform from a fiber semifinished product (3), comprises (a) providing a fiber semifinished product which is formed as a fiber mat comprising at least two layers made of fiber material, (b) clamping the fiber mat in a clamping device (5) in a region between an upper tool (11) and a lower tool of a forming device (9), and forming the fiber mat using the forming device to obtain the preform. The individual layers of the fiber mat are separately clamped in associated individual clamping frames of the clamping device. An independent claim is also included for a device (1) for producing the preform from the fiber semifinished product, comprising the clamping device for clamping the fiber mat, which comprises at least two separate individual clamping frames, in which individual layers of the fiber mat are separately clampable, and a forming device for forming the fiber mat, which comprises the upper tool and the lower tool.
