Manufacturing a fiber material comprising preforms, comprises (i) providing a fiber mat, (ii) clamping the fiber mat between a first clamping frame part (2) and a second clamping frame part (3) of a clamping frame (1) in an area between an upper tool and a lower tool in an open press tool, and (iii) closing the compression mold. The fiber mat is clamped between uneven contact surfaces (6, 7) of the clamping frame parts. The clamping force, is adjusted so that the fiber mat during the closing of the press tool slides down in the direction of a cavity of the press tool. Manufacturing a fiber material comprising pre-forms, comprises (i) providing a fiber mat made of many fiber materials containing layers, (ii) clamping the fiber mat between a first clamping frame part (2) and a second clamping frame part (3) of a clamping frame (1) between an upper tool and a lower tool of an open press tool, and (iii) closing the compression mold. The fiber mat is clamped between uneven contact surfaces (6, 7) of the clamping frame parts. The clamping force, with which the clamping frame parts clamp the fiber mat, is adjusted so that the fiber mat during the closing of the press tool slides down in the direction of a cavity of the press tool.
