The method involves phase-shifting patterns in a projector plane (31). Multiple second images of an object illuminated by cameras (12, 13) are received. Each second image in picture planes (32, 33) of the cameras is evaluated as an intensity distribution. Multiple second images corresponding to an intensity distribution are transformed into a predetermined point of view. Camera-side phase information of the transformed intensity distributions is identified. A three-dimensional (3D) surface (14) of the object is determined in dependence on the determined phase information. The object set is to project multiple patterns by a projection device (11). An independent claim is included for a system for contactless detecting a 3D surface of an object.
