The method involves connecting a primary side of a direct current (DC) regulator of a DC charging device with a power supply. A secondary side of the regulator is connected with a battery of a vehicle. The secondary side is galvanically separated from the primary side by a transformer. A normal operating mode of connection of the DC charging device with the vehicle is checked. A current flow from the DC charging device to the vehicle is interrupted by an inverter (13) in an abnormal operating mode of the connection. An independent claim is also included for a DC charging device.
