The device (100) has an illumination source (101) e.g. LED and incandescent lamp, for emitting a light on an object (106) to be illuminated over an illumination beam path. A transparent or semitransparent, luminescent layer (103) e.g. electroluminescent layer and TOLED layer, is positionable in the illumination beam path. The luminescent layer is formed in an aperture plane (101') of the illumination beam path or in proximity of the aperture plane. The luminescent layer is designed as a plane or curved surface and applied on a collector lens (102) or a condensing lens (105). An independent claim is also included for a microscope or macroscope.
