The method involves applying low-voltage on a piezoelectric actuator (12) after discharging the piezoelectric actuator for a predetermined time period such that a coupler hydraulically connects the piezoelectric actuator with a nozzle needle (22) during pressure prevails a predetermined value for the predetermined time period. Certain amount of the low-voltage is set such that a reaction is formed between the nozzle needle and the piezoelectric actuator. A measured value is sensed by utilizing the piezoelectric actuator during the predetermined time period. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling a piezoelectric actuator.
