The method comprises smoothening a surface (31, 32) of a metal construction part (25) by supplying thermal energy using a laser beam (18). A phase change is caused on the surface of the metal construction part in an impingement area of the laser beam from solid into a liquid phase, where the adjacent portions of the surface remain in the solid phase during the incidence of the laser beam. The surface roughness is changed by changing a process parameter value. The surface is machined by a rotational and/or translatory relative movement between the metal construction part and the laser beam. The method comprises smoothening a surface (31, 32) of a metal construction part (25) by supplying thermal energy using a laser beam (18).
