The device (1) has an energy storage unit (2), and a battery management system (3) that is connected to the energy storage unit. A terminal (4) is arranged for connecting a pole (5) of the energy storage unit to an electrical system of a motor vehicle. Another terminal (6) is coupled in parallel to a switching element (8) such as MOSFET, via a line (9) electrically connected to another pole (7). The line is provided with switching element (10) having a pre-determined, non-zero, finite electrical resistance value in a non-actuated state, and a much higher resistance in a driven state.
