The target detection device includes a radar sensor, an image sensor, and an ECU. The target detected by the radar sensor is selected under certain conditions, for example i) a reception intensity of the reflected radar waves is equal to or greater than a predetermined value, or ii) the target is moved to be output externally. When a stopped vehicle is detected on a road by the sensor, and a target behind the standing vehicle, such as a pedestrian, is detected by the image captured by the image sensor by performing image recognition by means of predetermined target patterns, the ECU selects the selected condition less restrictively than the selected condition for destinations other than the destination existing behind the stationary vehicle, or unconditionally selects the destination located behind the stationary vehicle.
