The method involves injecting a cooling oil filled in an integrated cooling duct (7) through a cooling oil jet (11) to the underside (12) of a piston head (5). A stationary internal beam (16) is arranged in the oil jet of an internal combustion engine (1). A multi-hole injector nozzle (15) is adjusted by an adjusting unit (20) such that an impingement (17) of the stationary internal beam is directed towards the piston head in a defined position opposite to the impact zones (13) of the oil jet formed on the underside of the piston head. An independent claim is included for an internal combustion engine with a piston.
