The cylinder control method involves determining the priority values for predetermined cylinder activation or deactivation sequences of an engine (102). One of the predetermined cylinder activation or deactivation sequences is selected as a desired cylinder-activation or deactivation sequence for cylinder of the engine based on the priority values. The opening of inlet and outlet valves of the cylinders is activated based on the desired cylinder activation or deactivation sequence. The fuel is supplied to the cylinder. The fuel supply is switched off for the another cylinder.
