The method involves generating desired activation/deactivation subsequence of cylinder (118) for predetermined number of revolutions of a crankshaft using predetermined cylinder activation/deactivation subsequence. The opening of intake valve (122) and exhaust valve (130) of the cylinder is activated based on the desired cylinder activation/deactivation subsequence. The fuel is supplied to a cylinder, and the fuel to the another cylinder is switched off. The time duration for the crankshaft revolution is determined.
